Biography

Hope Koch (Hope_Koch@baylor.edu) is an Associate Professor in Baylor University’s IS program, where she leads the program’s career development efforts. After graduating with her undergraduate degree in accounting in 1992, Hope worked as a CPA for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., (the #1 company in the US). In 1996, she began pursuing her MBA in IS at Baylor University. Shortly after her graduation, she matriculated to Texas A&M University. After earning her Ph.D. in information and operations management, she began her academic career at Baylor University.

In Hope’s classes students work on projects that impact business and society. Her undergraduate management information systems students work on IT intervention projects to solve real-world business problems. Students in her IS leadership course compete in international competitions and engage in consulting projects for companies like Wal-Mart and USAA. Students in her qualitative II doctoral seminar design and execute qualitative research projects which are published in journals and conference proceedings.

Hope’s research focuses on solving organizational problems. Most recently she’s been studying the next generation of IT employees and how organizations can leverage new technologies like social networking. In addition to publishing in leading academic journals like MIS Quarterly, MIS Quarterly Executive and Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Hope serves on two editorial boards and frequently shares her research with industry.

Hope believes that education changes lives. Scholarship and inspiring teachers helped her leave the small town Texas trailer park where she spent the first 20 years of her life. In an effort to help others pursue their dreams, Hope and her husband Kevin run the Callaway Foundation, an educational foundation that provides nearly $500,000 in scholarships annually to high school graduates from Cameron, TX--Hope’s hometown.

On a personal note, Hope loves competition and adventure. She is a regionally ranked triathlete and has completed 6 marathons. She has walked on fire, sky-dived and bungee jumped.
