Visit the Dominican Republic and explore a unique island with incredible tropical beauty. For two weeks, May 16 - 29, 2010, you will tour one of the largest islands in the Caribbean and gain insights from experts as they speak about the contemporary challenges the Dominican Republic faces. You will learn to analyze complex local and global problems, including the details of recent trade agreements and other important economic, political, and cultural issues. We will travel to a variety of cities and towns, including Santo Domingo, Jarabacoa, Santiago, and Puerto Plata, and will visit museums, historic monuments, cigar factories, manufacturing operations, beautiful beaches, social institutions, and much more. Few American students will ever visit the Dominican Republic. Don't miss this opportunity!

Undergraduate and graduate students can take a maximum of six hours of coursework as part of the program, which will include 10 hours of pre-trip class sessions and 20 hours of post-trip class instruction, and all required coursework (e.g., written projects) is to be completed before the end of the first summer session. Students from all degree programs are welcome to apply.

Cost is approximately $1,250. The price includes 13 nights hotel accommodations, a meal allowance, and all scheduled excursions and taxes. Tuition, airfare, and incidental expenses are not included.

There are a limited number of spaces available. Enrollment is subject to instructor approval and is on a first-come first-served basis. We recommend that you apply early.
