SESSION GOAL:
After completing this session, you should be able to create a dataset
to use in ACL and do simple evaluations of that dataset.
- Read ACL for Windows Workbook, Chapter 3.
(See assignment below for Norwood Office Supplies before you start reading
this chapter).
- Read Paul Warner, ACL
for Windows, The CPAJournal, November 1998.
- You may want to view the ACL Demo (6.2 MB)
in Blackboard. You can also download
a zipped file (1.9 MB) there.
- Read Norwood
Office Supplies, Inc. Case. Navigation for the case is on the left-hand
side of the screen. The CASE gives you all the information, so read
it carefully. Also read APPENDIX A for a brief introduction to CAATs.
You will also need to download the CASE STUDY DATA FILES. Complete questions
1-10 in APPENDIX B. Questions 1-9 correspond with much of the material
in Chapter 3 of the ACL text and will get you familiar with the workings
of ACL. These do not need to be handed in. Question 10, however, is
to be handed in for grading before 9:40 AM on July 23. In addition to
the assignments in question 10, prepare answers to the following. You
should turn in a printout of the LOG FILE to support your answers. This
is an individual assignment.
- Were there any duplicate sales order numbers
used?
- What are the highest and lowest invoice balances?
- What was the average invoice amount?
- There are some tips sheets for specific ACL
commands that you may find useful in
the COURSE MATERIAL section of Blackboard.
