Biography

Dr. Emerson was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. In 1989, she graduated from Konawaena High School and subsequently moved to Oahu where she attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In 1993, Dr. Emerson graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a B.A. in economics. The following fall, she started her graduate studies in economics. In 1996, Dr. Emerson earned an M.A. in economics from the University of Southern California (USC) and then a Ph.D. in economics also from USC in December of 2002. Dr. Emerson’s research interests lie in the fields of environmental economics, economic education, and business ethics. She has published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals including Economic Inquiry, Southern Economic Journal, Journal of Economic Education, Journal of Business Ethics. Dr. Emerson has taught courses at Baylor in environmental economics, international economics, intermediate microeconomic theory, and principles of microeconomics.
In the fall of 2000, Dr. Emerson moved to Waco, Texas to teach in the Economics Department of Baylor University where she is Professor of Economics and Holder of the Ben H. Williams Professorship in Economics.
