Biography
Daniel M. Ogden, J.D., is a Lecturer in International Business, International Law and International Relations at Baylor University. He formerly was Baylor's Director of Trade Compliance, University Export Control Officer and DDTC Empowered Official. He also provides international trade consulting services through his firm, International Trade & Customs Advisory Services and additionally provides professional executive and management training in international trade compliance.
Starting in January, 2018, he created, organized and began teaching a new course in the Baylor Hankamer School of Business, Global Trade Compliance, which is the only course of its kind offered by any AACSB accredited Business School in the U.S. and which is offered at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also teaches Global Supply Chain at the undergraduate level and Global Trade Compliance Strategies, which is part of the Baylor OMBA Global Trade and Supply Chain Management concentration. He additionally teaches various international relations courses in in the Baylor Political Science Department including International Law, International Politics and International Political Economics.
He has also taught Transnational Law and Business Transactions at the Tianjin University of Finance and Economics in Tianjin, China; and Introduction to International Business and Trade, International Marketing Management, and International Business Law at Richland College. He has additionally been a guest lecturer in International Business Transactions at Texas Tech University School of Law and Export Market Development at the University of Texas at Dallas School of Management.
He is an attorney at law, licensed customs broker, and international trade consultant who for more than 35 years has counseled and represented companies on various aspects of international trade and business. With his advanced degrees and proficiency in both law and international business management, he possesses the ability and experience to understand the challenges involved in international trade from a legal, managerial and business perspective. A recognized authority on international trade issues, he frequently consults with international firms as an expert on international trade matters and provides training to companies on trade compliance management.
He regularly presents at international trade conferences, including presenting International Trade in Technology at the Baylor 2018 Global Business Forum; Export Compliance & Foreign Distribution at the NACM 2015 Credit Congress and the ICPA Fall 2013 Conference; Business Strategies for Risk Mitigation and Protection of Intellectual Property in Foreign Markets at a U.S. Department of Commerce Discover Global Markets event in 2014; and U.S. Regulation of International Trade at the Baylor 2007 Global Business Forum.
He has appeared before governmental panels on trade policy issues, including testifying in 2013 before the U.S. House Small Business Trade Subcommittee in a hearing on a Small Business Trade Agenda for the 113th Congress, and participating in a panel at the EU Parliament in 2014 on the perspectives of U.S. exporters as relates to the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.
He was the Chair of the National District Export Council in 2012 and 2013 and also the Chair of the National DEC Trade Policy Committee from 2009 to 2015. He has also served as a member of the North Texas District Export Council since 2005 where he currently Chairs the Compliance and Security Committee.
