Biography

Buckley Named Director of Career Management June 29, 2006 - New Position Created to Focus on MBA Job Placement - Terry S. Maness, dean of Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business, has announced a newly-created position to focus on MBA career placement initiatives. The Cox-Hawkins Director of Career Management will report to the associate dean of Graduate Business Programs at the School. Ken Buckley, a Baylor alumnus and former President, General Manager of Austin Semiconductor, Inc. in Austin, has been appointed to the post. "This is an important area of emphasis," said Maness. "As we place our students successfully in internships and full time positions, our reputation will grow. In turn, we expect to see an increase in applications and enrollment of high quality students who will select our Graduate Business Programs because of the strong curriculum and job placement we can offer." The new position is funded by generous donations from the William Thomas Cox, Jr Estate and Jim Hawkins, Chairman of the Board of J-Hawk Funding Corporation. Buckley will be responsible for developing strong corporate and business relationships, marketing Baylor's business graduates to U.S. and international companies, and providing leadership over programs initiated to prepare students for successful careers. According to Maness, the position will help the School further develop its career management initiatives and hopefully expand these initiatives, for the future. A member of Baylor's 1980 SWC Football Championship team, Buckley started as a 150-pound walk-on for Grant Teaff, where he earned a scholarship and lettered. He earned his BBA from Baylor in 1981 with a double major in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. "I consider the people associated with Baylor University to be some of the finest and most gifted people I have ever met," said Buckley. "Years ago teachers and coaches at this fine institution gave of themselves to equip me for success in the highly competitive business world. I am honored to have an opportunity to come back to Baylor and assist and encourage others as they take their own career paths. For me it is an answer to prayer and I am truly excited by the position." Buckley spent 24 years in the semiconductor, high technology marketplace. He held executive positions in marketing, sales and management, including the position of President and General Manager. In these roles he traveled extensively in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He has been married to his wife, Lynn, for 32 years and has two children, Lacy and Lance and two grandchildren, Ace and Marshall. Buckley is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys bow hunting and shooting sports. He also lifts weights, works with youth and is a deacon at First Baptist Church of Woodway.
