Biography
Dr. Jiménez is an Associate Professor at the Army-Baylor Master in Health and Business Administration. He joined the program in July 2020 after teaching at the United States Military Academy. Dr. Jiménez has taught Quantitative Methods, Operations Management, Project Management, and Computational Epidemiology. He is also an advisor to eight military officers pursuing their MHA/MBA.
Dr. Jiménez was born and raised in San José, Costa Rica. He attended the United States Military Academy as an International Cadet and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering. Dr. Jiménez’s work experience includes working for Deloitte, Michelin, Cooper Industries, ATK-Orbital, Wittenberg-Weiner Consulting, and Guidehouse in the areas of Management Consulting, Engineering Management, Project Management, Logistics, and Continuous Improvement. Dr. Jiménez also conducted research for the Biocomplexity Institute at Virginia Tech in highly-detailed, agent-based healthcare simulations.
Dr. Jiménez holds a Master in Engineering Management degree from the George Washington University, a Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech, and a Master of Public Health from Virginia Tech. Dr. Jiménez successfully defended his PhD dissertation in 2014 entitled “The utilization of macroergonomics and highly-detailed simulation to reduce healthcare-acquired infections” at Virginia Tech.
Ten years after graduation from West Point, and following his naturalization as an American citizen, Dr. Jiménez enlisted in the US Army Reserves as a Specialist (E4). A year and a half later he received a direct commission in the Army Reserve’s Medical Service Corps . He was deployed to the Middle East as the Theater Preventive Medicine Consultant and Headquarters Detachment Commander for the 3rd Medical Command Operational Command Post (Forward) in 2014. Dr. (Major) Jiménez continues to serve as an Environmental Science Engineering Officer for the Public Health Command-Central at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Dr. Jiménez holds certifications as a Fellow, American College of Healthcare Executives, Project Management Professional (PMI), Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt (ASQ), Certified Professional Engineering Manager (ASEM). Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (ASQ), Graduate Certificate in Human-Systems Integration (Virginia Tech), and as a Certified Army Instructor (US Army). Dr. Jiménez is the Regional Director (Southwest Region) for the American Society for Engineering Management, and a member of the American Society for Quality, Project Management Institute, Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences, and the American College of Healthcare Professionals.
Dr. Jiménez is married to Dr. (Lieutenant Colonel) Lara Brennecke, a veterinarian, and they have two children: Hawk Diego (8) and Phoenix Matteo (6). Dr. Jimenez enjoys CrossFit, Karate-do, practicing languages, and spending time with his family.
