Officers Election, 2001–2002

The ABO Section is having an election for the following two officers: Chair-Elect, and Secretary Treasurer. There are two candidates for each slate of position. The biographies for all the candidates are provided below.

The votes are accepted by the AAA headquarters in Sarasota, Florida electronically, mail, fax and/or telephone. Electronically, your vote will be transmitted via this form when you click on the "Vote Now" button below. Your vote is kept confidential. Your vote and participation in the election process is important. Please cast your vote. The deadline for voting is July 27, 2001.

CANDIDATES FOR CHAIR-ELECT (Vote for one)

Charles D. Bailey
Current Position:
Professor of Accounting, University of Central Florida, 1991 to present. Previously Associate and Assistant Professor, Florida State University, 1981-1991

Education:
Degrees from Georgia State University: Ph.D., June 1981, Accounting; M.P.A., 1980, Accounting; M.B.A., 1973, Management; B.B.A., 1969, Management

Professor Bailey has published in The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Management Science, Journal of Management Accounting Research, Abacus, AUDITING: A Journal of Practice and Theory, and other journals, and has presented papers at national and regional AAA meetings. He has served regularly as a reviewer for ABO and other AAA sections, and currently is the editor of The ABO Reporter 2000-2001. He is a member of the AAA Minority Faculty Development Committee, 2000-2001. He has served on the editorial boards of Advances in Accounting, Managerial Finance, and The Accounting Educators' Journal, and has served as a reviewer for The Accounting Review, the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, Management Science, Decision Sciences, IIE Transactions, the European Journal of Operational Research, Omega, the Journal of Accounting Education, the National Science Foundation, and others.

Joseph G. Fisher
Current Position:
Joseph Fisher is a KPMG Peat Marwick Fellow and Associate Professor of Accounting at Indiana University. He was formerly on the faculty at the Amos Tuck School, Dartmouth College and at The University of Arizona. He has been a visiting professor at Theseus Institute, France, the International University of Japan and The Helsinki School of Economics. He is on the editorial board of The Accounting Review, Journal of Management Accounting Research, and Behavioral Research in Accounting. He has worked for the accounting firm Deloitte & Touche.

Professor Fisher’s research interests focus on control in complex organizations and on the use of financial information in managerial decisions. His academic research has appeared in journals such as The Accounting Review, Decision Sciences, Behavioral Research in Accounting, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management Accounting Research, Journal of Cost Management, Sloan Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Public Choice, Accounting, Organizations and Society, among other journals.

Professor Fisher is co-author of the book Cost Management for Tomorrow sponsored by the Financial Executives Institute. He is also co-author of the Financial Management Program for the AICPA and has served on several AICPA task forces. He has published several case studies that have been taught in numerous universities. He has completed numerous consulting and research projects for Fortune 500 companies.

Professor Fisher has served the ABO section in several capacities, including Editor of The ABO Reporter (Newsletter), Secretary-Treasurer, and member of the Editorial Review Board of BRIA, JMAR and has presented papers at several ABO Research Conferences.

CANDIDATES FOR SECRETARY/TREASURER (Vote for One)

Ralph H. Greenberg
Current Position:
Ralph H. Greenberg received his Ph.D. in accounting from The Ohio State University in October 1981. He is currently Associate Professor at Temple University. His previous work experience includes working for Motorola, China and China University of Political Science and Law; Visiting Professor, University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School; Visiting Professor, University of Iowa and Assistant Professor, University of Illinois. His publications have appeared in Journal of Accounting Research; Behavioral Research in Accounting; Accounting, Management and Information Technology; Journal of Management Research Methods Analysis; Journal of Accounting Literature; Journal of Management Accounting Research; Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting; and The Engineering Economist.

He has published several books including Mapping Strategic Thought; Managing Ambiguity and Change; and Accounting for Manufacturing Productivity: Problems and Directions in Cost Accounting. He has presented papers at several conferences including many Regional and National AAA Meetings, Behavioral and Managerial Section Meetings, Beijing University, The Ohio State University, University of Manitoba Research Conference, among others.

He has held several positions in the AAA and AAA sections including:

  • ABO: Chairman Lifetime Contribution in Behavioral Accounting Research, Member Executive Committee, Chair Syllabi Committee, Member Membership Committee, Reviewer for Sectional Meetings, and currently Program Chair for the 2001 ABO Research Conference.
  • His positions in Management Accounting Section activities include: Member Executive Committee, Member Contribution to Literature Committee, Liaison to National AAA Education Coordinator, Member Outstanding Dissertation Award Committee, Meeting Representative for National AAA Committee.

Elaine Sanders
Current Position:
Elaine Sanders is an Associate Professor of Accounting at The University of Texas at San Antonio where she teaches primarily topics in Managerial Accounting. Dr. Sanders is interested in judgment and decision-making issues and has published in Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Process, Journal of Managerial Issues, Journal of Business Strategies, and elsewhere.

Dr. Sanders has been a member of the ABO Section of the American Accounting Association since its inception, has presented papers at many of the Annual Meetings, has discussed papers at the AAA National Meeting, and has served as the coordinator for the Southwest Regional meeting for the past three years.

Dr. Sanders is also a member of the Management Accounting Section, where she served for one year on the membership committee. She has provided services as a reviewer and as a discussant for the Management Accounting Section, the Education Section, and the Historian’s Section.
