IN DEEPEST SYMPATHY

Dr. Robert B. Sweeney, a leading accounting educator passed away on May 6, 1995 at the age of 64. Dr. Sweeney held the Thompson-Hill Chair of Excellence in Accounting at the University of Memphis. He was Director of the University of Alabama's Culverhouse School of Accountancy from 1971-1983. He received his BBA, MBA and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Texas.

He specialized in management accounting, controllership and ethics, and was the author of numerous journal articles, papers and books. He was on the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy. He recently received the IMA/Brummet Award as the outstanding management accounting professor in the nation. Dr. Sweeney helped organize the Institute of Certified Management Accountants, and served as chairman of the Board of Regents of the Institute.
