The Centennial Anniversary of the First CPA Examination
A Century of Professional Progress

The Academy of Accounting Historians will hold its 1996 Research Conference at the Cleveland Marriott Society Center in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 5-7, 1996. Papers are invited which address historical issues and topics related to the theme, such as the following:

• the evolution of professionalism in accounting;
• the schism between theory and practice as reflected in the training of American practitioners, the content of the CPA exam and U.S. practice;
• the CPA exam as d suitable measure of entry level competence and as a determinant of the educational content of accounting programs;
• the relationship between the AICPA and NASBA;
• comparative analysis of the certification exams in the U.S. and abroad;
• the effects of the industrial revolution and the information age on the CPA profession;
• the expectations of accounting information users: 1900 vs 2000.

The deadline for submitting completed papers is June 15, 1996. Four copies of the double-spaced, completed paper should be sent to:
