ADA Compliance & Alt Tags. ADA Compliance refers to the American Disabilities Act and requires that websites of agencies that have federal funding be accessible to viewers that must rely on usage of all text browsers. Baylor University tries to follow these guidelines. Filling the Alt Tags on graphic images and photographs is one of the basic things you can do meet this criteria.

Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) adds style to HTML documents, and consistency. The following components can are made uniform by the Baylor Business CSS.

  • font tags
  • table content
  • body of the file
  • paragragh ....

A key feature of CSS is that style sheets can cascade. That is, several different style sheets can be attached to a document and all of them can influence the presentation of the document. In this way, the author can create a style sheet to specify how the page should look, while the reader can attach a personal style sheet to adjust the appearance of the page for human or technological handicaps, such as poor eyesight or a personal preference for a certain font.

Content Management System (CMS) is a database driven system used to streamline navigation and reuse template design throughout a website. It is very useful for large organizations and facilitates site maintenance.

Expandable Tables refer to those that are set to 100% for table width. I could also refer to height, but for this discussion is mainly about the table width setting at 100%. It is expandable because the table automatically adjusts to your monitor setting. For example, if you monitor is set to 800 pixels wide, the table set to 100% would expand to fill the available space. The table set to a specific size, such as 500 pixels would always stay 500 pixels regardless of the monitor setting.

HTML—HyperText Markup Language is the main language for publishing hypertext on the World Wide Web. It is a non-proprietary format based upon SGML, and can be created from scratch using programs like Notepad or sophisticated WYSIWYG authoring tooks like Dreamweaver. HTML uses specific tags to structure text into headers, paragraphs, lists, links, tables, and more. Baylor University has a site licence for Dreamweaver MX. For help loading this on your pc, contact Casey Computer Center.

Resources are intended to be links to pages that are external to the HSB framework/CMS. They open up in a separate window.

Sections refer to the links in the menu to the left that define the navigation through your pages.

Separate Window refers to the opening of another viewing screen. When it is closed the original page that linked to it remains open.

W3W—World Wide Web Consortium. This organization is very involved with Internet guidelines and ADA Compliance issues.
