Using Tables

Tables can be numerous rolls and columns. They are used to create short, organized lists of information, to avoid scrolling and long pages, and to make pages more scannable.

This is the table used on the Manage News and Add Faculty/Staff Pages with some color added to it and the width setting at 550 pixels. If you want to create a similar table you could use the Table Editing tool in the menu or enter the exact html code. More detailed information on "Table Width set at 100%" is available at the Table at 100% Page Link on the left.

Table Width

Note: If you are using images within a table, the total width for all images should not exceed 600 pixels. Text will adjust when you select 100% for the width, but images will not. For example, if you have one row containing 3 columns with 3 images, each measuring 300 pixels, the total width for that row is 900 pixels.

Most web pages are designed with 800 pixels being the maximum width. On our site the left navigation takes up 176 pixels, and then there are scroll bars, etc., leaving approximate 600 pixels or a bit less. So if you do not want the viewer to scroll horizontally, please keep this in mind.
